About Linknet Wireless Broadband

General

Broadband Internet Access essentially provides vastly increased efficiencies in all aspects of Internet usage resulting in, for example increased productivity in daily routines, Online Banking, sending and receiving emails, or just simply accessing information on the Web.
When using Linknet Wireless Broadband these tasks can be completed in a fraction of the time it would take using a normal dial-up connection.
Linknet Wireless Broadband is a high quality low latency terrestrial Broadband Connection essential for emerging interactive applications such as VOIP Telephone services and on-line gaming. These services are provided by our wholly owned and operated Telecommunications backhaul and Access point infrastructure extending from Lismore NSW into adjoining areas.

Backhaul Infrastructure.

Our Backhaul infrastructure extending from our upstream provider at Lismore consists of two High Capacity Redline Microwave Links with inbuilt fail-over routing redundancy. Because the backhaul capacity from our upstream provider is owned and operated by us there is no additional provisioning of network equipment to introduce larger bandwidth capacity into our Broadband Network. This allows for immediate provisioning of additional bandwidth with increasing customer demand ensuring Quality of Service assurances are met.

Access Point and Customer Premises Equipment Infrastructure.

Superior Performance
Our Motorola Canopy Wireless Broadband Infrastructure provides exceptional quality broadband services to distances of 40km with aggregate throughput on each access point up to 7.5Mb/sec.
Put simply the Motorola equipment delivers superior performance using a modulation scheme that improves the quality of data delivery and mitigates interference from other systems. The system’s wireless signals are highly effective in penetrating obstacles and avoiding obstructions, making it efficient in rural locations.

Exceptional Security
The platform also offers security with over-the-air DES (Data Encryption Standard) encryption and is also available with AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) capabilities, which provide 128-bit encryption, to ensure secure data delivery and exceptional reliability. With AES, it would take approximately 149 trillion years—that’s older than the earth itself—to crack a code.

Incredible Speed
The Canopy platform’s upload and download speeds are as fast as or faster than virtually every other service available today. The point-to-multipoint Canopy system offers speeds from 512 Kbps to 14 Mbps (aggregate data rates) and the point-point backhaul system delivers from 10Mbps to 300 Mbps. Of course, upload and download speeds are affected by several factors so actual speeds may vary, but the potential to offer an incredible broadband experience is inherent in the Canopy system.

Low latency - essential for emerging applications.
The Motorola Canopy Infrastructure provides a very low latency connection from the Customers Connection to the Internet.
Latency is the time it takes for Internet data packets to traverse the Internet via your connection to the host server you are accessing. Examples of host servers can be in the case of viewing internet content, a web server, downloading a file, an ftp server and so on.
Latency will occur mainly two reasons being; the physical distance between network components or; restrictions or bottlenecks in network capacity of access servers or bandwidth saturation of physical links.
In the case of non- terrestrial delivery ie satellite services, permanent latency in the range of 500ms to 1000ms (1second) is introduced resulting in transmission delays from the satellite receiver to the satellite transponder back to the earth receiving station to the internet are introduced.
Emerging interactive Internet applications essentially require low latency connections to the Internet to operate efficiently.
To take full advantage of these applications such as making and receiving telephone calls, gaming etc latencies of less than 50ms to major internet infrastructure is required.
For this reason we recommend that when considering various options for the provision of broadband services to your premises that you consider this and choose the option of a Satellite Broadband service as an absolute last resort.
If in doubt we recommend you seek impartial advise from DCITA as to the best technology alternatives available in your area.
