| Problems Sending Mail |
 |
In most circumstances problems with mail timeouts can be associated with one of two things.
- Blocking by a firewall - Read below.
- Anti virus software - Read below.
Firewall's
Some common firewall's are BitDefender, BlackICE, McAfee Firewall, Norton Firewall, Windows XP Firewall and ZoneAlarm.
If you have any of the above or any other firewall installed you must allow full internet access to your mail program. If you have a third party firewall installed disable the Windows XP Firewall (If using XP).
Instructions on how to configure your firewall are in your firewall's documentation. You can also contact your firewall manufacturer's technical support.
Anti virus software
These programs sit between your mail program and our mail servers scanning mail as it enters and leaves your computer. Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that Outlook Express times out. Messages with numerous or large attachments are commonly affected.
A simple fix is to disable scanning of outgoing messages. As long as you keep your virus definitions up to date and set to scan files as they are created or downloaded, your system is still fully protected.
Below are instructions for the most common anti virus packages.
