Joining a Wireless Network

The information on this page applies to The Wireless Network Connection utlity in Windows XP.

Configuration

You should follow these instructions if your wireless router has already been setup with a wireless network and your wireless card is enabled.
For information on enabling your wireless card or setting up a wireless network please contact the manufacture of the card or router.

1. Windows XP will display an icon with a notification that says it has found a wireless network. Right-click the Wireless network icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
Under Network Tasks , select View available wireless networks.

 

2. The Wireless Network Connection window will appear, and you should see your wireless network listed .
Select your network, and then click Connect in the lower right-hand corner.

 

3. If your network is encrypted, Windows XP will prompt you to enter a key. In both the Network Key and Confirm Network Key boxes, type the
encryption key that you wrote down, and then click Connect.

4. Once you have connected to the network, Open up your web browser and load a web page to test that you have been connected to the internet.
