What is wireless?
Wireless broadband works rather like a television or radio wave between our transmission point and your reception point. As long as your computer is on it’s connected. This means real time e-mail delivery and instant internet access.
It is the ideal way to access broadband internet, especially for those who can’t access broadband through the phone line.
-
Wireless broadband is fast
"Latency" refers to the time it takes data to travel the internet. Linknet’s wireless broadband is a high quality low latency terrestrial (land-based) broadband connection. This means a really fast clean data transfer.
-
Exceptional security
All connections to Linknet’s wireless broadband are encrypted at 128 bit DES which provides an industry standard and business preferred security encryption for your sensitive and important data.
It is your responsibility to enable your router security at your end to prevent someone logging in to your account and using your data.
-
The spectrum licence
Linknet’s spectrum licence ensures only Linknet customers have access to Linknet’s bandwidth. This means consistent quality with no interference.
-
Wireless versus satellite
Satellite services are transmitted from thousands of kilometers away. This distance means atmospheric conditions affect your transmission. It causes problems on overcast days and if you have a wet week you may have intermittent service or none at all. Linknet’s service works the same, day in and day out. It is not affected by rain, storms or a little cloudy weather.
The distance your data has to travel can also cause problems with latency (speed). This can affect playing games, viewing videos, listening to pod casts, watching You Tube or using VOIP (telephone through your computer).
If you are an Australian Broadband Guarantee customer you will not be able to get a funded satellite service if there is a wireless service available. You can only get a satellite service if you cannot get anything else.
-
Fixed wireless verses mobile wireless - Telstra NextG or Optus 3G etc
Our fixed wireless service runs from our own fixed access points (or towers) which are used for our broadband services only. This gives continuity with speed and reliability.
Mobile wireless runs off mobile phone towers. Your data is competing for space with millions of mobile phone calls. If the mobile tower is busy you may get a service as slow as dial up or one that switches on and off.
-
The cost - what you see is what you get
Linknet provides an excellent service with NO hidden costs.
Downloads means any data you receive over the internet.
Uploads means any data you send out over the internet. So every time you connect to the internet you upload, every time you send an email or picture or any other sought of information you upload and any time you fill in a form on the internet to buy or apply you upload. With some cheaper plans your monthly data allowance is measured by adding both your uploads and your downloads. At Linknet we only measure whichever reaches your limit first.
With some cheaper plans when you go over your data limit you automatically pay extra. This can add up to substantial amounts of money. At Linknet we slow you down to our free speed for the remainder of your billing cycle and email you with a choice to maintain your broadband speed at only 5c per megabyte for the remainder of your billing cycle or to upgrade your plan.
Linknet internet plans are competitive with other wireless broadband providers and are regularly reviewed to give you genuine value.
Be aware that the cheapest in the business is not the best. Read the fne print, ask a lot of questions because you only get what you pay for.
