MAC OS X Dialup Configfuration

The following instructions will allow you to set up, or trouble-shoot where necessary, a dialup connection on MacOS X.

The first part of setting up or checking the configuration of your Linknet connection is to set the dialup information. Follow these steps:

  1. Click the Apple icon

  2. Click System Preferences

  3. Click on the Network icon

  4. Select Configure: Using PPP

  5. Under Domain Name Servers, enter:
    202.162.96.5
    202.162.96.6

  6. Under Search Domains, enter linknet.com.au

  7. Click PPP

  8. Enter "Linknet" for your Service Provider

  9. Enter the Linknet dialup number 6639 8300

  10. Enter your Linknet username and password

  11. Tick Save Password (unless you want to have to type it each time)

  12. Click PPP Options

  13. Configure the different Session Options as preferred (you will probably want "Connect automatically" ticked)

  14. Tick "Send PPP echo packets" & "Use TCP header compression" in Advanced Options

  15. Make sure that "Connect using a terminal window" is NOT ticked

  16. Click OK

  17. Click the Proxies tab

  18. Make sure that none of the boxes are ticked

  19. Click Modem

  20. Set your settings as above - make sure that the correct modem is selected. iMac users will usually be using the Apple Internal modem

  21. Click Apply Now or Save

  22. Click the Apple icon

  23. Click System Preferences

  24. Click on the Internet icon

  25. Click Email

  26. Select your Email program from the list (usually Outlook Express)

  27. Set your email address to your Linknet address: eg. username@linknet.com.au

  28. Set Incoming mail server to: pop.linknet.com.au

  29. Select POP for the Account Type

  30. Set the User Account ID to your Linknet login name (usually the first part of your email address)

  31. Enter your Password

  32. Set Outgoing mail server to: smtp.linknet.com.au

  33. Click Web

  34. Select your Web browser from the list (usually Internet Explorer)

  35. Set your homepage to http://www.linknet.com.au or whatever you prefer

  36. You can set the search page and location to download files according to your preference (this is not required, so if you do not know what to put, just leave it)

  37. Click News

  38. Select your news program from the list (usually Outlook Express)

  39. Set News server to: news.linknet.com.au

  40. Select Connect As: Guest

  41. Leave the other sections blank

  42. Close the Internet window.
